Night of Organ Music in Tallinn – Bach, Orff and Masterpieces of Classical Music

On October 16, we invite you to an evening of classical music masterpieces at the organ in Tallinn.

Programme: a gem of organ music – Bach's Toccata in D minor, BWV 565; Orff's powerful O Fortuna from the cantata Carmina Burana; Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King; Böllmann's iconic Suite Gothique; an arrangement of Schubert's Erlkönig for violin and cello; and many other captivating works.

You will hear some of the most compelling compositions by great composers, performed by an extraordinary ensemble:
  • Ilona Birgele (organ)
  • Yuri Savkin (violin)
  • Irina Vylegzhanina (cello)
  • Virdžīnija Laube-Vītiņa (percussion)

The concert takes place under the vaults of Charles's Church, home to Estonia's largest church organ — a Walcker instrument.
Please note: all musicians will be positioned on the gallery next to the organ — within the vast acoustic space of the church, visual contact and proximity are essential for precise and cohesive ensemble playing.

We invite you to experience these masterworks in an atmosphere where music, light, and space become one, and the musicians' virtuosity is brought to life through bespoke lighting design.

Charles's Church

10 Toompea
The Charles's Church (Tallinna Kaarli kirik) is one of the largest religious buildings in Estonia, both in terms of capacity and architectural significance. It is located in Tallinn on Tõnismägi Hill (10 Toompea Street) and is recognized as an architectural monument. For Lutheran Christians living in Tallinn, it serves as the cathedral.
Built in the spirit of historicism with elements of Neo-Romanesque style, the church is constructed from hewn limestone and features a Latin cross floor plan. The name "Kaarli" was given in honor of the reigning monarch, Swedish King Charles XI.
